STATISTIK PERDAGANGAN BORONG & RUNCIT MILIKAN WANITA

    Pada tahun 2018, terdapat 91,043 pertubuhan milikan wanita dalam sektor Perdagangan borong & runcit berbanding 72,532 pertubuhan pada 2013 dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 4.7 peratus.
  2. Bilangan Pertubuhan Mengikut Sub-Subsektor
    Bilangan pertubuhan yang tertinggi bagi pertubuhan milikan wanita direkodkan dalam subsektor Perdagangan runcit dengan 78,922 pertubuhan (86.7%), diikuti oleh Perdagangan borong, 7,754 pertubuhan (8.5%) dan Kenderaan bermotor, 4,367 pertubuhan (4.8%).
  3. Nilai Jualan dan Perkhidmatan
    Nilai jualan barangan & perkhidmatan bagi pertubuhan milikan wanita berjumlah RM81.3 bilion dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 7.3 peratus dan disumbangkan oleh subsektor Perdagangan runcit iaitu RM36.5 bilion dengan sumbangan 44.9 peratus.

    Jumlah pekerja bagi pertubuhan milikan wanita meningkat kepada 267,947 orang dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 3.1 peratus dari tahun 2013 sehingga 2018.

    Gaji & Upah yang dibayar oleh pertubuhan milikan wanita berjumlah RM4.7 bilion dan merekodkan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 4.9 peratus. Purata gaji & upah bulanan yang direkodkan oleh pertubuhan milikan wanita adalah RM2,460 dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 2.0 peratus.

Revenue for Services Sector Second Quarter 2020

Overall Performance

Total  revenue  of  Services  sector  in  second  quarter  2020  recorded  RM335.6  billion,  decreased  24.0  per  cent  as compared  to  the  same  quarter 2019. The growth was contributed by Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment (-RM82.8 billion; -23.7%). Meanwhile, total revenue on a quarterly basis registered a negative growth of 23.4 per cent or RM102.3 billion.

Total number of persons engaged in this sector amounted to 3.7 million persons, a decrease of 115,400 persons or 3.1 per cent as compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Quarterly basis indicated that number of persons engaged recorded a negative growth of 2.6 per cent or decreased 96,314 persons.

In this quarter, salaries & wages paid was RM23.5 billion, a decrease of 6.4 per cent as against the previous year, while quarter-on-quarter went down 5.7 per cent.  

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation

Total revenue for Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment contracted 23.7 per cent as compared to the second quarter of 2019 to RM266.5 billion. The decline was contributed by Wholesale & Retail Trade sub-sector (-RM74.3 bilion; -22.6%), Food & Beverages (-RM5.7 bilion; -32.6%) and Accommodation (-RM2.8 bilion; -82.6%). For quarterly comparison, this segment recorded a negative growth of  23.3 per cent.

Number of persons engaged in this segment decreased 3.4 per cent to 2.7 million persons as compared to the second quarter of 2019. Salaries & wages paid decreased 3.5 per cent to RM14.4 billion. For quarterly comparison, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages paid went down 2.8 per cent and 3.8 per cent, respectively.

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage

Information  &  Communication  and  Transportation  &  Storage  segment  recorded  a  decrease  in  revenue  to  RM51.9  billion or  21.3  per  cent  as compared  to  the  second  quarter  of  2019. The  decline  was  propelled  by  Transportation  &  Storage sub-sector with 97.2 per cent (-RM15.3 billion). Meanwhile, for quarterly comparisons, revenue contracted by 18.9 per cent.

Number of persons engaged for this segment decreased 3.9 per cent year-on-year to record 462,637 persons and salaries & wages paid amounted to RM4.2 billion. Meanwhile, on quarterly basis, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages paid recorded negative growths of 2.7 per cent and 14.3 per cent, respectively.

Health, Education and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation

A total of RM9.6 billion revenue was generated for Health, Education and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation segment in the second quarter 2020 with 41.7 per cent decrease as compared to the second quarter of 2019. The decrease was contributed by Arts, Entertainment & Recreation sub-sector (-83.7%). This segment registered a decrease in revenue of 43.2 per cent on a quarterly basis.

In this quarter, number of persons engaged recorded 281,159 persons, decreased 0.6 per cent as compared to a year ago. Salaries & wages paid also decreased 0.1 per cent to RM2.4 billion. Quarter-on-quarter, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages paid decreased 1.8 per cent and 5.2 per cent, respectively.

Professional and Real Estate Agent

Total revenue for Professional and Real Estate Agent segment recorded a negative growth of 20.9 per cent against the same quarter of 2019. The decrease recorded by Professional sub-sector (-RM1.8 billion; -20.0%). For quarterly comparison, this segment recorded a decline of 21.9 per cent.

In second quarter 2020, the number of persons engaged was 178,642 persons or decreased by 0.1 per cent as compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Salaries & wages paid went down 2.2 per cent to RM2.5 billion. For the quarterly comparison, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages recorded negative growths of 0.4 per cent and 0.8 per cent, respectively.

Performance of Services Sector

Volume Index of Services declined 21.5 per cent to 99.3 points in second quarter 2020 as compared to the same quarter of previous year.

The main contributors to the fall of Services sector in the second quarter of 2020 was Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment  (-26.4%) and Other Services segment  (-41.2%)

Seasonally adjusted volume index of this sector deteriorated  22.0 per cent  to 100.0 points as compared to the previous quarter.

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation

Volume  index  of  Wholesale  &  Retail Trade, Food  & Beverages and Accommodation  segment  experienced  a decrease of  26.4 per cent as compared to the same quarter of 2019. The downward momentum is due to the Accommodation sub-sector (-78.8%) and Food & Beverages sub-sector (-31.7%). Seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment drop of  26.1 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.

Business Services and Finance

The  segment of  Business  Services  and  Finance  declined  13.9 per cent  as  compared  to  the  same quarter  of  2019. The decline  was  driven  by  Real Estate  sub-sector (-32.1%) and Professional, Scientific & Technical and Administrative & Support Services sub-sector (-20.8%). Seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment went down by 16.2 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage             

The segment of Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment reduced to  14.8 per cent as compared with the same quarter of previous year. This  was  due  to  a decrease for the Transport  &  Storage  sub-sector  by  45.4 per cent. Seasonally  adjusted  volume  index  in  this  segment also went down to  16.1 per cent in second quarter 2020. 

Other Services

This segment decreased 41.2 per cent as compared to the second quarter of 2019. This decline was stimulated by Arts, Entertainment & Recreation and Personal Services & Other Activities sub-sector  (-76.0%). Seasonally adjusted volume index of Other Services segment fell  39.8 per cent as compared to the first quarter of 2020.  

Domestic Tourism Recorded the Highest Expenditure of RM103.2 Billion, Grew 11.5 Per Cent in 2019

PERFORMANCE OF DOMESTIC TOURISM, 2019

  • A total of 239.1 million domestic visitors were recorded in 2019 with a growth of 8.1 percent as compared to previous year (7.7%).
  • In terms of total tourism trips, domestic visitors undertook 332.4 million trips within the country with an average of 1.39 trips per visitor.
  • Domestic tourism expenditure continued to register a double-digit growth with 11.5 per cent to RM103.2 billion in 2019 (2018: 11.4%).
  • Shopping registered the highest percentage share of total expenditure made by a visitor for his/her trip with a share of 37.8 per cent.

TRAVELLING TREND OF DOMESTIC TOURISM

  • In 2019, visiting relatives & friends (42.3%) continued to be the most prevalent purpose for domestic visitors making a trip. The second main purpose was shopping (35.4%), followed by holiday/ leisure/ relaxation (9.0%), entertainment/ attending special event/ sports (4.0%) and medical treatment/ wellness (4.0%).
  • Selangor was the most visited state by domestic visitors in 2019 which accounted for 33.6 million visitors, followed by W.P. Kuala Lumpur (22.6 million), Sabah (22.0 million), Perak (21.1 million) and Sarawak (19.8 million).
  • Land transport was widely used by domestic visitors in 2019 with 98.5 per cent.
  • In 2019, unpaid accommodation provided by relatives & friends (70.9%) was the most popular type of accommodation among the tourists. This was followed by hotel (18.5%), homestay/ vacation homes (3.8%), apartment (3.6%), rest house (1.7%) and chalet (1.5%).

SOCIAL & DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE OF DOMESTIC VISITORS

  • Majority of the domestic visitors were from the age group of 25 to 39 years with a contribution of 37.8 per cent. This was followed by domestic visitors aged 15 to 24 years (26.4%), 40 to 54 years (24.1%) and 55 years and above (11.7%).
  • Domestic visitors by household income class between RM1,001 to RM3,000 per month recorded the highest share with 35.7 per cent. This was followed by visitors earning between RM3,001 to RM5,000 per month (26.4%) and RM5,001 to RM10,000 per month (23.3%).

More Than 70 Per Cent Establistments Rented Premises & Average Gross Profit Micro Enterprise RM4,360 Per Month

The publication of WHOLESALE & RETAIL TRADE CENSUS 2019 that presents statistics such as sales value of goods & services, cost of goods sold, value of gross output, value of intermediate input, value added, number of persons engaged, salaries & wages and value of fixed assets owned. Statistics on Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs), women ownership in business and usage of information and communication technology are also published.

PERFORMANCE OF WHOLESALE & RETAIL TRADE SECTOR

The census results showed that there were 469,024 establishments operated in Wholesale & retail trade sector in 2018 as compared to 370,725 establishments in 2013. This number registered an annual growth rate of 4.8 per cent.

Sales value of goods & services in 2018 for this sector was RM1,270.8 billion as compared to RM841.6 billion in 2013 with a growth rate of 8.6 per cent per annum. Value of gross output generated by Wholesale & retail trade sector amounted to RM384.3 billion as compared to RM250.3 billion in 2013. The output registered an annual growth rate of 9.0 per cent. Total value added in this sector for 2018 increased with an annual growth rate of 9.4 per cent to RM238.0 billion in 2018 as compared to RM151.9 billion in 2013.

Total number of persons engaged in this sector for 2018 were 2,002,838 persons with salaries & wages paid amounted to RM62.9 billion, registering an annual growth rate of 3.3 per cent. Meanwhile, salaries & wages paid expanded at 10.0 per cent as compared to 4.6 per cent in 2013.

Value of fixed assets owned by establishments for Wholesale & retail trade sector in 2018 was RM134.1 billion as compared to RM80.6 billion in 2013. This value recorded an annual growth rate of 10.7 per cent.

First Quarter 2020: Volume Index of Services experienced an increase of 2.3 per cent to 128.0 points

Performance of Services Sector

Volume Index of Services experienced an increase of  2.3 per cent to 128.0 points in first quarter 2020 as compared to the same quarter of previous year.

The increase of Services sector in the first quarter of 2020 was led by Business Services and Finance,  4.1 per cent, followed by Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment, 2.7 per cent. Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment grew 1.5 per cent, meanwhile Other Services segment declined to  0.9 per cent

Seasonally adjusted volume index of this sector decreased by  3.4 per cent to 127.4 points as compared to the previous quarter.

 Performance by Segment

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation

Wholesale  & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment registered a positive growth of  1.5 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2019. The  growth  in  this  segment  was  generated  by  Food  &  Beverages  sub-sector  with  2.9 per cent and Wholesale & Retail Trade sub-sector, 1.5 per cent. Seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment decreased by 4.1 per cent as compared to the previous quarter. 

Business Services and Finance

Volume index of Business Services and Finance portrayed an increase trend of  4.1 per cent as compared to the same quarter of 2019. The growth was supported by Business and Finance sub-sector with  4.8 per cent and Professional, Scientific & Technical and Administrative & Support Services sub-sector, 4.5 per cent. Seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment declined by 0.1 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage             

Volume index of Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment edged up by  2.7 per cent as compared with the same quarter of previous year. This increase was led by Information & Communication sub-sector with  6.4 per cent. Seasonally adjusted volume index in this segment went down by  2.3 per cent in first quarter 2020. 

Other Services

This segment declined to 0.9 per cent as compared to the first quarter of 2019. This growth was due to a decline in Arts, Entertainment & Recreation and Personal Services & Other Activities sub-sector with  5.8 per cent. Seasonally adjusted volume index of Other Services segment decreased by 16.6 per cent compared to the fourth quarter of 2019. 

Revenue for Services Sector First Quarter 2020

Overall Performance

Total revenue of Services sector in first quarter 2020 recorded RM437.8 billion, increased 1.5 per cent as compared to the same quarter 2019. The highest contribution was registered by Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment (+RM5.3 billion; +1.5%). Meanwhile, total revenue on a quarterly basis registered a negative growth of 4.7 per cent or RM21.4 billion.

Total number of persons engaged in this sector amounted to 3.7 million persons, an increase of 36,683 persons or 1.0 per cent as compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Quarterly basis indicated that number of persons engaged recorded a negative growth of 1.6 per cent or decreased 61,428 persons.

In this quarter, salaries & wages paid was RM25.0 billion, an increase of 1.4 per cent as against to the previous year, while quarter-on-quarter went down 3.4 per cent.

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation

Total revenue for Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment recorded a positive growth of 1.5 per cent as compared to the first quarter of 2019 to RM347.2 billion. The growth was contributed by Wholesale & Retail Trade sub-sector (+RM5.1 billion; +1.6%) and Food & Beverages (+RM0.4 billion; +2.4%). For quarterly comparison, this segment recorded a negative growth of  4.1 per cent.

Number of persons engaged in this segment increased 1.1 per cent to 2.8 million persons as compared to the first quarter 2019. Salaries & wages paid grew 1.9 per cent to RM15.0 billion. For quarterly comparison, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages paid went down 2.0 per cent and 1.9 per cent, respectively.

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage

Information & Communications and Transportation & Storage segment recorded an increase in revenue to RM63.9 billion or 1.4 per cent as compared to the first quarter of 2019. The increase was propelled by Information & Communication sub-sector with 6.5 per cent (+RM2.2 billion). Meanwhile, for quarterly comparisons  revenue went down by  7.5 per cent.

Number of persons engaged for this segment was increased 0.3 per cent year-on-year, to record 475,390 persons and salaries & wages paid amounted to RM5.0 billion. Meanwhile, on quarterly basis, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages paid recorded a negative growth of 0.3 per cent and 10.1 per cent, respectively.

Health, Education and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation

A total of RM16.8 billion revenue was generated for Health, Education and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation segment in the first quarter 2020 with 0.6 per cent decrease compared to the first quarter 2019. This decrease was contributed by the Arts, Entertainment & Recreation subsector (-9.2%). This segment registered a decrease of revenue 3.7 per cent on a quarterly basis.


In this quarter, number of persons engaged recorded 286,093 persons, rose 0.9 per cent as compared to a year ago. Salaries & wages paid also grew 4.0 per cent to RM2.5 billion. Quarter-on-quarter, number of persons engaged decreased 0.7 per cent, meanwhile salaries & wages paid grew by 2.8 per cent.

Professional and Real Estate Agent

Total revenue for Professional and Real Estate Agent segment increased 5.0 per cent against the same quarter of 2019. The rise was propelled by Professional sub-sector (+RM0.4 bilion; +5.2%). For quarterly comparison, this segment recorded a decline of 5.5 per cent.

In first quarter 2020, the number of persons engaged recorded was 179,665 persons or increased by 1.0 per cent as compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Salaries & wages paid grew 3.4 per cent to RM2.5 billion. For the quarterly comparison, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages recorded negative growth of 0.1 per cent and 3.4 per cent respectively.
