PERKEMBANGAN INDUSTRI JUALAN KOMPONEN DAN AKSESORI KENDERAAN BERMOTOR DAN MOTOSIKAL

Industri Jualan komponen dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor dan motosikal merujuk kepada Jualan borong dan runcit semua jenis komponen, alat ganti, bekalan, peralatan dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor serta aksesori motosikal. Berdasarkan Banci Perdagangan Borong & Runcit 2019 (tahun rujukan 2018) merekodkan nilai jualan RM69,027 juta dengan sumbangan 28.1 peratus kepada Subsektor Kenderaan Bermotor.

PRESTASI UTAMA INDUSTRI JUALAN KOMPONEN DAN AKSESORI KENDERAAN BERMOTOR DAN MOTOSIKAL

  • Bilangan pertubuhan meningkat sebanyak  5.4 peratus iaitu 19,963 pertubuhan pada tahun 2018 berbanding 15,333 pertubuhan pada tahun 2013.
  • Nilai jualan berkembang sebanyak 7.0 peratus iaitu RM41.4 bilion pada tahun 2018 berbanding RM29.6 bilion pada tahun 2013.
  • Bilangan pekerja meningkat sebanyak 3.0 peratus iaitu 103,319 orang pada tahun 2018 berbanding 89,193 orang pada tahun 2013
  • Gaji dan upah yang dibayar meningkat sebanyak Rm2.7 bilion pada tahun 2018 berbanding RM2.0 bilion pada tahun 2013.
Bilangan Pertubuhan

Bilangan pertubuhan bagi jualan borong dan runcit semua jenis komponen, alat ganti, bekalan, peralatan dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor menunjukkan peningkatan sebanyak 5.6 peratus iaitu 18,139 pertubuhan berbanding 13,781 pertubuhan pada tahun 2013. Tambahan lagi Jualan borong dan runcit komponen (termasuk alat ganti) dan aksesori motosikal bertumbuh 1,824 pertubuhan (2013:1,552 pertubuhan)  dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 3.3 peratus seperti di paparan 1.

Nilai Jualan

Nilai jualan barangan dan perkhidmatan merekodkan sebanyak RM41 bilion pada tahun 2018 dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan sebanyak 7.0 peratus berbanding pada tahun 2013. Penyumbang terbesar dalam aktiviti ini adalah Jualan borong dan runcit semua jenis komponen, alat ganti, bekalan, peralatan dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor RM39,438.6 juta dengan sumbangan sebanyak 95.2 peratus. Ini diikuti oleh Jualan borong dan runcit komponen (termasuk alat ganti) dan aksesori motosikal iaitu (RM1,976.1 juta; 4.8%) seperti di paparan 2.

Bilangan pekerja bagi jualan borong dan runcit semua jenis komponen, alat ganti, bekalan, peralatan dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor merekodkan bilangan pekerja tertinggi  iaitu 93,483 orang pekerja dalam tempoh 2018 dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 2.9 peratus. Ini diikuti oleh Jualan borong dan runcit komponen (termasuk alat ganti) dan aksesori motosikal iaitu 9,836  (4.3%) orang pekerja seperti di  paparan 3.

Jualan borong dan runcit semua jenis komponen, alat ganti, bekalan, peralatan dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor mencatatkan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 5.6 peratus dengan nilai gaji & upah tertinggi iaitu 2,503.1 juta pada tahun 2018 berbanding tahun 2013. Manakala Jualan borong dan runcit komponen (termasuk alat ganti) dan aksesori motosikal merekodkan  gaji dan upah sebanyak iaitu 176.0 juta (8.6%) seperti di paparan 4.

Tiga Negeri yang Mencatatkan Bilangan Pertubuhan Tertinggi, 2013 dan 2018

Negeri Selangor mencatatkan bilangan pertubuhan dan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan tertinggi berbanding negeri lain iaitu 5,249 pertubuhan (26.3%) yang disumbangkan oleh tiga daerah utama iaitu Petaling (2,210 pertubuhan; 42.1%), diikuti daerah Klang (1,099 pertubuhan; 20.9%) dan Hulu Langat 723 pertubuhan (13.8%). Ini diikuti oleh Johor (2,493 pertubuhan; 12.5%), Wilayah Persekutuan (2,107 pertubuhan; 10.6%), di paparan 5 dan 6.

Selangor merekodkan nilai jualan tertinggi pada tahun 2018 iaitu RM12,510 juta (30.2%) berbanding tahun 2013 iaitu RM9,337 juta dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 6.0 peratus, diikuti oleh Wilayah Persekutuan RM11,909 juta (28.8%), Johor RM3,652 juta (8.8%), Pulau Pinang RM2,346 juta (5.7%) dan Sabah RM 2,289 juta (5.5%) seperti di paparan 7.

Jumlah Pekerja

Selangor menyumbang 26,759 orang (25.9%) berbanding tahun 2013 iaitu 22,175 orang dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 3.8 peratus, diikuti oleh W.P. Kuala Lumpur, 24,351 orang (23.6%), Johor 11,004 orang (10.7%), Sabah 8,965 orang (8.7%) dan Perak 6,819 orang (6.6%).

Selangor menyumbang RM 816 juta (30.5%) berbanding tahun 2013 iaitu RM559 juta dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 7.9 peratus, diikuti oleh W.P. Kuala Lumpur, RM673 juta (25.2%), Johor RM312 juta (11.7%), Sabah RM198 juta (7.4%) dan Perak, RM139 juta (5.2%) seperti di paparan 9.

Bilangan Pertubuhan

Bilangan Pertubuhan bagi Industri ini adalah 19,933 pertubuhan atau menyumbang 32.1 peratus, keseluruhan PKS yang berjumlah 62,015 pertubuhan pada tahun 2018. Jualan borong dan runcit semua jenis komponen, alat ganti, bekalan, peralatan dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor mencatatkan bilangan pertubuhan tertinggi dalam industri ini mengikut PKS iaitu 18,109 pertubuhan atau 90.8 peratus, diikuti oleh Jualan borong dan runcit komponen (termasuk alat ganti) dan aksesori motosikal iaitu 1,824 pertubuhan (9.2%).

Jualan borong dan runcit semua jenis komponen, alat ganti, bekalan, peralatan dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor mencatatkan nilai jualan tertinggi dalam industri ini mengikut  PKS iaitu RM27,904 juta atau 93.4 peratus, diikuti oleh Jualan borong dan runcit komponen (termasuk alat ganti) dan aksesori motosikal iaitu RM1,976 Juta (6.6%).

Jualan borong dan runcit semua jenis komponen, alat ganti, bekalan, peralatan dan aksesori kenderaan bermotor mencatatkan Jumlah pekerja tertinggi dalam industri ini mengikut PKS iaitu 85,639 orang atau 89.7 peratus, diikuti oleh Jualan borong dan runcit komponen (termasuk alat ganti) dan aksesori motosikal iaitu 9,836 orang (10.3%).

PERFORMANCE OF WHOLESALE & RETAIL TRADE SECTOR

Wholesale & Retail Trade Malaysia Continues to Recover with a Smaller Decline in February 2021

Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade recorded RM108.0 billion in February 2021, registering -0.9 per cent contraction year-on year. The contraction was due to Retail Trade which slipped -2.1 per cent. Similarly, Motor Vehicles and Wholesale Trade also decreased -0.1 per cent respectively.

In terms of volume index, Wholesale & Retail Trade registered a growth of -1.1 per cent year-on-year to record 126.5 points. The decline was due to the decrease of -2.1 per cent and -1.0 per cent in Retail Trade and Motor Vehicles respectively. Wholesale Trade also recorded a negative growth to register 0.1 per cent. As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it expanded 4.0 per cent month-on-month in    February 2021.

WHOLESALE TRADE

Wholesale Trade generated sales value of RM52.6 billion in February 2021, a decrease of RM0.03 billion (-0.1%) as against February 2020. Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis recorded a fall of -5.1 per cent, Other Specialised Wholesale -4.3 per cent and Wholesale of Agricultural Raw Materials & Live Animals -2.0 per cent as compared to the previous year. For monthly comparison, sales of this sub-sector went down 5.1 per cent.

Volume index of Wholesale Trade registered 124.7 points, contracted 0.1 per cent       year-on-year. The negative growth was recorded in Wholesale on a Fee or Contract     Basis (-5.8%), Wholesale of Agricultural Raw Materials & Live Animals (-5.4%) and Other Specialised Wholesale (-4.6%). As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it rose 2.0 per cent month-on-month.

RETAIL TRADE

Sales of Retail Trade registered a negative growth of 2.1 per cent as compared to February 2020. Among groups that contributed to this fall were Retail Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores (-15.7%), Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (-6.6%) and Retail Sale of Cultural & Recreation Goods in Specialised Stores (-3.2%). Compared with January 2021, sales of this sub-sector edged down 3.0 per cent.

Volume Index of Retail Trade recorded -2.1 per cent growth to 138.5 points as compared to February 2020. Among the groups that contributed to this growth were     Retail Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores (-14.6%), Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (-7.0%) and Retail Sale of Cultural & Recreation Goods in Specialised Stores (-4.5%). As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it increased 2.0 per cent as against January 2021.

MOTOR VEHICLES

Sales value of Motor Vehicles sub-sector registered year-on-year growth of  negative 0.1 per cent. This decrease was attributed to Maintenance & Repair of Motor Vehicles which registered a growth of -6.3 per cent and Sale of Motor Vehicles Parts & Accessories -4.1 per cent. For monthly comparison, sales of this sub-sector increased 3.2 per cent.

The volume index of Motor Vehicles declined -1.0 per cent year-on-year to reach 98.2 points. The decrease was contributed by Maintenance & Repair of Motor Vehicles (-6.8%) and Sale of Motor Vehicles Parts & Accessories (-4.7%). Seasonally adjusted volume index for this sub-sector surged 21.0 per cent month-on-month.

PERKEMBANGAN INDUSTRI JUALAN BORONG DAN RUNCIT BAHAN BEKALAN DAN BAHAN BINAAN

PENGENALAN

Industri pembinaan menjadi komponen utama dalam landskap pembangunan ekonomi Negara. Industri ini mampu mengubah menjadi industri yang moden, produktif dan mapan sejajar dengan Program Transformasi Industri Pembinaan (CITP) 2016-2020 yang diperkenalkan oleh Kerajaan. Aktiviti-aktiviti industri binaan merangkumi pelbagai sektor pembinaan iaitu kediaman, industrial, komersial, pasarana dan sebagainya. Ia bukan hanya tertumpu kepada fasa pembinaan sahaja tetapi juga fasa-fasa pra pembinaan dan selepas pembinaan.

Perkembangan dalam industri ini turut memberi impak kepada prestasi Perdagangan Borong dan Runcit terutamanya industri yang terlibat dalam penjualan borong & runcit bahan bekalan & bahan binaan. Berikut diringkaskan Prestasi Industri Jualan Borong dan Runcit Bahan Bekalan & Bahan Binaan berdasarkan penemuan Banci Perdagangan Borong & Runcit, 2019.

Bilangan Pertubuhan

Penemuan Banci Perdagangan Borong & Runcit 2018 terdapat 25,253 pertubuhan yang beroperasi dalam aktiviti ini. Bilangan ini mencatatkan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 8.4 peratus berbanding 16,279 pertubuhan pada tahun 2013.

Jualan runcit bahan binaan, hardwer, cat dan kaca menjadi pemacu utama bilangan pertubuhan iaitu 17,950 pertubuhan berbanding 12,254 pertubuhan pada tahun 2013 dengan kadar pertumbuhan 7.3 peratus. Ini diikuti Jualan borong dan bekalan lain-lain bahan binaan, hardwer, peralatan paip & alat pemanas yang meningkat 8.7 peratus dan seterusnya Jualan borong bahan pembinaan meningkat 50.8 peratus seperti di Paparan 1.

Nilai Jualan

Nilai jualan barangan dan perkhidmatan pada tahun 2018 bagi aktiviti ini berjumlah RM103.8 bilion berbanding RM59.1 bilion pada tahun 2013 dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 10.7 peratus. Borong & bekalan lain-lain bahan binaan adalah penyumbang utama iaitu RM57.8 billion dengan merekodkan sumbangan sebanyak 72.8 peratus. Ini diikuti oleh Jualan runcit bahan binaan, hardwer, cat dan kaca (RM25.3 billion; 9.4%) dan Jualan borong bahan pembinaan (RM15.8 bilion; 32.2%) seperti di Paparan 2.

Jumlah Pekerja dan Upah & Gaji

Jumlah pekerja pada tahun 2018 bagi aktiviti ini berjumlah 120,271 orang berbanding 96,782 orang pada tahun 2013 dengan kadar  pertumbuhan tahunan 4.3 peratus. Gaji & Upah yang dibayar pada tahun 2018 bagi aktiviti ini berjumlah RM2.8 billion berbanding RM5.0 bilion pada tahun 2013 dengan kadar  pertumbuhan tahunan 11.0 peratus.

PRESTASI MENGIKUT NEGERI

Selangor kekal mendominasi bilangan pertubuhan sebanyak 5,910 pertubuhan (11.1%) yang disumbangkan oleh tiga daerah utama iaitu Petaling (2,591 pertubuhan; 20.30%), diikuti daerah Klang dan Hulu Langat masing-masing sebanyak (1,130 pertubuhan; 8.85%) dan 1,081 pertubuhan (8.47%). Ini diikuti oleh W.P kuala Lumpur (4,381 pertubuhan; 10.4%) dan Johor (2,765 pertubuhan;8.5%) seperti di Paparan 4.

Sarawak merekodkan nilai jualan tertinggi pada tahun 2018 iaitu RM28,190 juta (35.06%) berbanding tahun 2013 iaitu RM4,365 juta dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahun 9.6 peratus, diikuti oleh Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, RM25,519 juta (31.73%), Selangor, RM14,163 juta (17.61%)Sabah RM9,535 juta (11.86%) dan Pulau Pinang, RM 7,202 juta (8.96%) seperti di Paparan 5.

Prestasi bilangan pekerja mengikut negeri pada tahun 2018 menunjukkan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur menyumbang 27,353 orang (35.60%) berbanding tahun 2013 iaitu 19,596 orang dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 6.9 peratus, diikuti oleh Selangor, 20,139 orang (16.7 %), Johor, 11,458 orang (9.5%), Sarawak, 9,142 orang (4.7%) dan Perak, 9,109 orang (7.6%) seperti di Paparan 6.

Upah & Gaji

Prestasi bilangan pekerja mengikut negeri pada tahun 2018 menunjukkan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur menyumbang RM 2,038 juta (51.01%) berbanding tahun 2013 iaitu RM 783 juta dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 37.40 peratus, diikuti oleh Selangor, RM 1,028 juta (25.72 %), Johor, RM 365 juta (9.14%), Sarawak, RM 338 juta (8.45%) dan Pulau Pinang, RM 227 juta (5.68%).

Bilangan Pertubuhan PKS

Jualan runcit bahan binaan, perkakasan, cat dan kaca mencatatkan bilangan pertubuhan tertinggi dalam industri ini mengikut PKS iaitu 17,947 pertubuhan atau 71.9 peratus, diikuti oleh Jualan borong dan bekalan lain-lain bahan binaan, hardwer, peralatan paip dan alat pemanas t.t.t.l iaitu 5,360 pertubuhan (21.5%) dan Jualan borong bahan pembinaan sebanyak 964 pertubuhan (3.9%).

Nilai Jualan PKS

Jualan borong dan bekalan lain-lain bahan binaan, hardwer, peralatan paip dan alat pemanas t.t.t.l mencatatkan nilai jualan tertinggi dalam industri ini mengikut PKS iaitu RM38,566 juta atau 54.0 peratus, diikuti oleh Jualan runcit bahan binaan, perkakasan, cat dan kaca iaitu RM25,231 Juta (35.3%) dan Jualan borong bahan pembinaan sebanyak RM3,926 (5.5%).

Jualan runcit bahan binaan, perkakasan, cat dan kaca mencatatkan Jumlah pekerja tertinggi dalam industri ini mengikut PKS iaitu 60,605 orang atau 56.7%, diikuti oleh Jualan borong dan bekalan lain-lain bahan binaan, hardwer, peralatan paip dan alat pemanas t.t.t.l iaitu 40,520 orang (37.9%) dan Jualan borong bahan pembinaan sebanyak 2,328 orang (2.2%).

Gaji & Upah PKS

Jualan runcit bahan binaan, perkakasan, cat dan kaca mencatatkan Jumlah gaji & upah tertinggi dalam industri ini mengikut PKS iaitu RM2,134 juta atau 46.6 peratus, diikuti oleh Jualan borong dan bekalan lain-lain bahan binaan, hardwer, peralatan paip dan alat pemanas t.t.t.l iaitu RM2,036 juta(44.4%) dan Jualan borong bahan pembinaan sebanyak RM239 juta (5.2%).

5 Perkara yang perlu diketahui berkenaan Statistik Pertubuhan Milikan Wanita Sektor Perdagangan Borong & Runcit, 2018

  1. Bilangan Pertubuhan
    Pada tahun 2018, terdapat 91,043 pertubuhan milikan wanita dalam sektor Perdagangan borong & runcit berbanding 72,532 pertubuhan pada 2013 dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 4.7 peratus.
  2. Bilangan Pertubuhan Mengikut Sub-Subsektor
    Bilangan pertubuhan yang tertinggi bagi pertubuhan milikan wanita direkodkan dalam subsektor Perdagangan runcit dengan 78,922 pertubuhan (86.7%), diikuti oleh Perdagangan borong, 7,754 pertubuhan (8.5%) dan Kenderaan bermotor, 4,367 pertubuhan (4.8%).
  3. Nilai Jualan dan Perkhidmatan
    Nilai jualan barangan & perkhidmatan bagi pertubuhan milikan wanita berjumlah RM81.3 bilion dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 7.3 peratus dan disumbangkan oleh subsektor Perdagangan runcit iaitu RM36.5 bilion dengan sumbangan 44.9 peratus.
  4. Jumlah Pekerja
    Jumlah pekerja bagi pertubuhan milikan wanita meningkat kepada 267,947 orang dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 3.1 peratus dari tahun 2013 sehingga 2018.
  5. Gaji & upah
    Gaji & Upah yang dibayar oleh pertubuhan milikan wanita berjumlah RM4.7 bilion dan merekodkan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 4.9 peratus. Purata gaji & upah bulanan yang direkodkan oleh pertubuhan milikan wanita adalah RM2,460 dengan kadar pertumbuhan tahunan 2.0 peratus.

PERFORMANCE OF WHOLESALE & RETAIL TRADE SECTOR

Wholesale & Retail Trade Malaysia Records RM115.5 billion in December 2020 and generate RM1.2 trillion in 2020

Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade recorded RM115.5 billion in December 2020 to register -0.3 per cent year-on-year. This was due to Retail Trade which contracted 2.0 per cent (-RM0.9 billion). Similarly, Wholesale Trade also recorded a decrease of 0.6 per cent (-RM0.3 billion). On the other hand, Motor Vehicles continued a positive growth of 7.4 per cent or an increase of RM0.9 billion.

In December 2020, volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade registered a growth of -0.7 per cent year-on-year to record 133.8 points. The fall was due to Retail Trade and Wholesale Trade which decreased 2.9 per cent and 0.02 per cent respectively. In contrast, Motor Vehicles recorded a positive growth to register 6.0 per cent. In terms of seasonally adjusted volume index, it went up 1.3 per cent month-on-month.

WHOLESALE TRADE

Wholesale Trade generated sales value of RM55.3 billion in December 2020, a decrease of RM0.3 billion (-0.6%) as against December 2019. Other Specialised Wholesale and Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis recorded a fall of 6.4 per cent respectively as compared to the previous year. For monthly comparison, sales of this sub-sector increased 4.8 per cent.

Volume index of Wholesale Trade registered 131.3 points, contracted 0.02 per cent year-on-year. The negative growth was recorded in Other Specialised Wholesale (-5.8%) and Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis and (-3.7%). As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it increased 0.7 per cent month-on-month.

RETAIL TRADE

Sales of Retail Trade registered a negative growth of 2.0 per cent as compared to December 2019. Among groups that contributed to this decrement were Retail Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores (-10.5%), Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (-6.4%) and Retail Sale of Cultural & Recreation Goods in Specialised Stores (-4.9%). Compared with November 2020, sales of this sub-sector rose 4.5 per cent.

Volume Index of Retail Trade recorded -2.9 per cent growth to 145.3 points as compared to December 2019. Among the groups that contributed to this growth were Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores (-9.1%), Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (-7.7%) and Retail Sale of Cultural & Recreation Goods in Specialised Stores (-5.5%). As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it increased 0.9 per cent as against November 2020.

MOTOR VEHICLES

Sales value of Motor Vehicles sub-sector registered year-on-year growth of 7.4 per cent. This increase was attributed to Sale of Motor Vehicles which registered a growth of 15.3 per cent and Sale, Maintenance & Repair of Motorcycle 6.9 per cent. For monthly comparison, sales of this sub-sector increased 4.4 per cent.

The volume index of Motor Vehicles grew 6.0 per cent year-on-year to reach 108.9 points. The increment was contributed by Sale of Motor Vehicles (16.1%) and Sale, Maintenance & Repair of Motorcycles (6.6%). Seasonally adjusted volume index for this sub-sector increased 4.6 per cent month-on-month.

Performance of Services Sector, Fourth Quarter 2020

Overall Performance

Total revenue of Services sector in fourth quarter 2020 recorded RM435.9 billion, increased 1.7 per cent as compared to the third quarter 2020.  The growth was contributed by Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment  (+RM5.1 billion; +1.5%).   Meanwhile,  total  revenue  on  annual  comparison  contracted  by  5.1 per cent  in  the  fourth  quarter,  from  -4.7 per cent in the previous quarter.   

Total number of persons engaged in this sector amounted to 3.7 million persons, decreased 10,502 persons or 0.3 per cent as compared to the third quarter 2020. For year-on-year comparison the number of persons engaged recorded a negative growth of 3.4 per cent or decreased 128,705 persons.

In this quarter, salaries & wages paid amounted to RM24.7 billion, a decrease of 0.1 per cent as against the previous quarter, while year-on-year it went down 4.5 per cent.  

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation

Total revenue for Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment increased 1.5 per cent  to  RM351.3 billion as compared to the third quarter of 2020. The rise was contributed by Wholesale & Retail Trade sub-sector (+RM5.3 billion; +1.6%) and Food & Beverages (+RM0.07 billion; +0.5%). For year-on-year comparison, this segment decreased by 3.0 per cent.

Number of persons engaged in this segment recorded a growth of -0.1 per cent to 2.8 million persons as compared to the third quarter of 2020. Salaries & wages paid increased 0.4 per cent to RM15.0 billion. For year-on-year comparison, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages paid decreased 3.4 per cent and 1.8 per cent respectively.

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment recorded an increase in  revenue  to  RM61.9  billion  or  3.4 per cent as compared to the third quarter of 2020. The increase was propelled by Information and Communication sub-sector with 9.0 per cent (+RM3.2 billion). Meanwhile, for yearly comparison, revenue contracted by 10.4 per cent.

Number of persons engaged for this segment decreased 1.9 per cent to record 452,491 persons as compared to the previous quarter of 2020. Salaries & wages paid also decreased 1.2 per cent to RM4.8 billion. Meanwhile, for comparison against the fourth quarter of 2019, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages   paid  recorded  negative  growths  of  5.1  per cent   and     13.7 per cent respectively.

Health, Education and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation

A total of RM13.4 billion revenue was generated for Health, Education and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation segment in the fourth quarter of 2020 with 3.1 per cent decrease as compared to the third quarter of 2020. The decrease was contributed by Education (-RM0.3 billion; -7.0%) and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation sub-sector (-RM0.2 billion; -4.7%). This segment registered a decrease in revenue of -23.0 per cent on yearly comparison.

In this quarter, number of persons engaged recorded 282,630 persons, increased 0.02 per cent as compared to the previous quarter. Salaries & wages paid decreased 1.7 per cent to RM2.4 billion. Year-on-year, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages paid recorded negative growths of 1.9 per cent and 1.6 per cent respectively.

Professional and Real Estate Agent

Professional and Real Estate Agent segment recorded an increase in revenue to RM9.2 billion or  9.1 per cent as compared to the third quarter of 2020. The increase was propelled by Professional sub-sector (+RM0.8 billion; 9.9%). For yearly comparison, revenue contracted by 10.8  per cent.

Number of persons engaged for this segment decreased 0.2 per cent quarter-on-quarter to record 177,885 persons. Salaries & wages paid increased 0.4 per cent to RM2.5 billion. Meanwhile, for comparison against the fourth quarter of 2019, number of persons engaged and salaries & wages recorded negative growths of 1.1 per cent and 3.7 per cent respectively.

PERFORMANCE OF WHOLESALE & RETAIL TRADE, OCTOBER 2020

PERFORMANCE OF WHOLESALE & RETAIL TRADE SECTOR

Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade recorded RM110.5 billion in October 2020 to register -0.8 per cent year-on-year (Chart 1). This was due to Retail Trade which contracted 1.5 per cent (-RM0.7 billion). Similarly, Wholesale Trade also recorded a decrease of 0.9 per cent (-RM0.5 billion). On the other hand, Motor Vehicles continued a positive growth of 2.2 per cent or an increase of RM0.3 billion.

In October 2020, volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade registered a growth of -1.5 per cent year-on-year to record 130.2 points. The fall was due to Retail Trade and Wholesale Trade which decreased 2.9 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively. In contrast, Motor Vehicles recorded a positive growth to register 1.7 per cent (Table 2). In terms of seasonally adjusted volume index, it went down 1.5 per cent month-on-month.

WHOLESALE TRADE

Wholesale Trade generated sales value of RM53.4 billion in October 2020, a decrease of RM0.5 billion (-0.9%) as against October 2019. Chart 3 shows that Other Specialised Wholesale and Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis recorded a fall of 6.1 per cent and 3.6 per cent respectively as compared to the previous year. For monthly comparison, sales of this sub-sector rose 1.7 per cent.

Volume index of Wholesale Trade registered 133.5 points, contracted 0.8 per cent year-on-year. The negative growth was recorded in Other Specialised Wholesale (-5.5%) and Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis (-3.5%) as in Chart 4. As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it increased 2.2 per cent month-on-month.

RETAIL TRADE

Sales of Retail Trade registered a negative growth of 1.5 per cent as compared to October 2019. Chart 5 shows that among groups that contributed to this decrement were Retail Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores (-9.6%), Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (-7.4%) and Retail Sale of Cultural & Recreation Goods in Specialised Stores (-4.6%). Compared with September 2020, sales of this sub-sector decreased 1.4 per cent.

Volume Index of Retail Trade recorded -2.9 per cent growth to 135.4 points as compared to October 2019. Among the groups that contributed to this growth were Retail Sale of Other Goods in Specialised Stores (-8.4%), Retail Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores (-8.3%) and Retail Sale of Cultural & Recreation Goods in Specialised Stores (-4.8%) as presented in Chart 6. As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it edged down 3.7 per cent as against September 2020.

MOTOR VEHICLES

Sales value of Motor Vehicles sub-sector registered year-on-year growth of 2.2 per cent. This increase was attributed to Sale of Motor Vehicles which registered a growth of 6.4 per cent and Sale, Maintenance & Repair of Motorcycle 4.7 per cent. For monthly comparison, sales of this sub-sector decreased 5.8 per cent.

Performance of Domestic Tourism in Selangor 2019

The performance of domestic tourism in Selangor as a whole showed a positive growth trend in terms of volume and value in 2019. The number of domestic visitor arrivals to Selangor recorded a total of 33.6 million domestic visitors with a growth of 11.3 per cent compared to the previous year. The total number of trips recorded in 2019 increased to 45.8 million trips as compared to 41.4 million trips in 2018.

In terms of receipt, a total of RM15.5 billion was spent by domestic visitors while visiting Selangor with an increase of 17.9 per cent compared to 2018. The average receipt per trip in 2019 has also increased to RM340 as compared to RM319 recorded in the previous year. The average length of stay in Selangor also increased to 2.24 days as compared to 1.87 days in 2018.

DOMESTIC VISITORS
Domestic visitors consist of excursionists and tourists. The positive growth in the number of domestic visitor arrivals in 2019 in Selangor was spurred by a higher increase in the number of tourist arrivals of 9.1 million persons with a growth of 35.1 per cent as compared to the previous year (2018: 6.8 million tourists). Number of excursionist arrivals to Selangor also recorded a positive growth at 4.4 per cent as compared to 2018.

PURPOSES OF TRIPS
The main purpose of tourists travelling to the state of Selangor in 2019. Visiting relatives & friends remained as the top purpose of trips with a percentage share of 80.2 per cent of total overnight trips (2018: 84.7%). This is followed by trip for holiday/ leisure/ relaxation (11.0%) and entertainment/ attending special event/ sports (3.3%).

ORIGIN STATE OF TOURISTS
The top five origin state of tourists who visited Selangor in 2019. According to the survey, tourists from Selangor were the highest with 3.2 million tourists. This was followed by tourists from W.P. Kuala Lumpur (1.2 million tourists), Perak (1.0 million tourists), Johor (0.8 million tourists) and Negeri Sembilan (0.7 million tourists).

Revenue for Services Sector Third Quarter 2020

Performance of Services Sector

Volume Index of Service jumped 24.3 per cent quarter-on-quarter from 99.2 points to 123.3 points in the third quarter of 2020.

The quarterly increase of Services sector was due to the increase of Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment (31.0%) and Other Services segment (38.6%). However, year-on-year comparison, Volume Index of Services recorded -5.7 per cent growth to 123.3 points in third quarter 2020.

Seasonally  adjusted  volume index of this sector also rebounded  22.9  per cent  to  122.7  points as compared to the  previous quarter. The main contributors  to this  increase  were  Wholesale  &  Retail  Trade,  Food  &  Beverages  and  Accommodation  segment  which  recorded  30.7 per cent  and  Other Services segment,  35.4 per cent.

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation

For the third quarter 2020, segment of Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation jumped  31.0 per cent to record  123.7  points as compared to second quarter of 2020. This drastic increase was due to the Wholesale & Retail Trade sub-sector  (32.1%)  and  Accommodation  sub-sector (134.5%).  However,  for  annual  comparison,  this  segment  declined  6.6 per cent as compared to the same quarter of 2019.

Seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment significantly increase  30.7 per cent to 123.8 points as compared to the previous quarter.

Business Services and Finance

Volume index of Business Services and Finance segment increased 19.6 per cent to register 123.6 points as compared to the previous quarter. This increase was driven by Finance & Insurance sub-sector  (22.0%) and Real Estate sub-sector (22.1%). Meanwhile, for annual comparison, this segment registered a negative growth of  1.9 per cent as compared to the same quarter of 2019.

Seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment experienced notable increase of  15.5 per cent to 122.7 points over the previous quarter.

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage             

Volume index of Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment increased  15.2 per cent to 128.2 points as compared to second quarter of 2020. The growth was stimulated by an  increase in Transport & Storage sub-sector  (55.8%). However, this segment dropped 3.6 per cent as compared to the same quarter of previous year.

Seasonally adjusted volume index in this segment expanded  15.5 per cent to 127.3 points as compared to the second quarter 2020.

Other Services

Segment  of  Others  Services  rebounded  38.6  per cent  to  register  101.6  points  as  compared  to   the  previous  quarter. The  growth  was  primarily  reflected by an increase in Arts, Entertainment & Recreation and Personal Services & Other Activities sub-sector (150.3%).Year-on-year, this  segment  went  down  to  register  21.8 per cent.

Seasonally adjusted volume index of Other Services segment surged  35.4 per cent to 99.3 points in third quarter 2020.

PERFORMANCE OF WHOLESALE AND RETAIL TRADE, SEPTEMBER 2020

PERFORMANCE OF WHOLESALE & RETAIL TRADE SECTOR

Sales value of Wholesale & Retail Trade recorded RM110.8 billion in September 2020 with a growth of 0.2 per cent year-on-year. This was the first positive growth recorded after the Covid-19 outbreak, led by Motor Vehicles which advanced by 17.1 per cent or an increase of RM2.0 billion. Similarly, Retail Trade rose moderately to 1.1 per cent (RM0.5 billion). On the other hand, Wholesale Trade contracted 4.2 per cent (-RM2.3 billion) within the same period.

In September 2020, volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade was on the positive track to register 0.1 per cent to record 130.0 points as compared to the same month of the previous year. Motor Vehicles recorded a positive growth of 15.1 per cent. Retail Trade also increased 0.1 per cent within the same period. Contrarily, Wholesale Trade registered -3.3 per cent. As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it inched up 1.1 per cent month-on-month. 

WHOLESALE TRADE

Wholesale Trade generated sales value of RM52.5 billion in September 2020, a decrease of RM2.3 billion (-4.2%) as against September 2019. Other Specialised Wholesale and Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis recorded a fall of 14.2 per cent and 8.3 per cent respectively as compared to the previous year. For monthly comparison, sales of this sub-sector increased 1.2 per cent.

Volume index of Wholesale Trade registered 131.6 points, contracted 3.3 per cent year-on-year. The negative growth was recorded in Other Specialised Wholesale (-12.6%) and Wholesale on a Fee or Contract Basis (-6.4%). As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it increased 0.5 per cent month-on-month.

RETAIL TRADE

Sales of Retail Trade registered a positive growth of 1.1 per cent as compared to September 2019. Among groups that contributed to this increment were Retail Trade Not in Stores, Stalls or Markets (9.2%), Retail Sale Via Stalls & Markets (8.2%), Retail Sale of Food, Beverages & Tobacco in Specialised Stores (8.2%) and Retail Sale in Non-specialised Stores (7.6%). Compared with August 2020, sales of this sub-sector declined 2.5 per cent.

Volume Index of Retail Trade recorded 0.1 per cent growth to 134.9 points as compared to September 2019. Among the groups that contributed to this growth were Retail Trade Not in Stores, Stalls or Markets (10.0%), Retail Sale Via Stalls & Markets (7.5%), Retail Sale of Food, Beverages & Tobacco in Specialised Stores (7.5%) and Retail Sale in Non-specialised Stores (6.7%). As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it expanded 2.3 per cent as against August 2020.

MOTOR VEHICLES

Sales value of Motor Vehicles sub-sector registered year-on-year growth of  17.1 per cent. This increase was attributed to Sale of Motor Vehicles which registered a growth of 34.8 per cent and Sale, Maintenance & Repair of Motorcycle 9.4 per cent. For monthly comparison, sales of this sub-sector decreased 0.8 per cent.

The volume index of Motor Vehicles grew 15.1 per cent year-on-year to reach   112.2 points. The highest increment was contributed by Sale of Motor Vehicles (41.0%) and Sale, Maintenance & Repair of Motorcycles (7.6%). Seasonally adjusted volume index for this sub-sector went up 9.2 per cent month-on-month.
